From PEF President Wayne Spence on April 7, 2023 — PEF has been in touch with the Governor’s office, as well as with state legislative leaders regarding Comptroller DiNapoli’s statement on the potential for delayed payroll payments if a budget extender is not enacted by noon on April 10. While PEF respects the legislative process and understands the importance of negotiating a state budget that meets the needs of all New Yorkers, PEF reminded policymakers that the state must meets its payroll obligation and that missing payroll sends exactly the wrong message to the state’s dedicated public servants. We believe the Governor and Legislative Leaders understand our concerns and will work to avoid any issues. PEF will keep members apprised of any updates.
